The Election Commission on Saturday sought an investigation report from the district administration within 24 hours on the alleged assault of journalists by AKM Bahauddin Bahar, the Awami League candidate for Cumilla-6.

A letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mizanur Rahman issued an order upon the Cumilla deputy commissioner and superintendent of police in this regard.

The letter cited media reports that stated journalists were abused, assaulted and obstructed from collecting news by the supporters of Bahauddin following his order.

The Election Commission's move comes after a show-cause notice was served upon Bahauddin on the same ground by the Election Inquiry Committee of Cumilla on Friday.

Earlier on 19 December, Bahauddin got two show-cause notices for breaching electoral code of conduct.

He was asked to reply to all the notices on Sunday.
