There was a rumour that they had coronavirus symptoms but local health officials said they both died of natural causes

A father and his son died within an hour of one another at Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria on Monday.

The deceased, Abdus Sattar, 92, and his son Fajal Huq, 45, were residents of Sitahar village in the upazila's Panisshar union.

After their death, a rumor spread in the area that they had died from coronavirus infection.

Later, a medical team was sent from the Sarail upazila medical complex to the home of the deceased.

Panisshar Union Parishad Member Tajul Islam said, "Sattar had been suffering from various geriatric diseases. He died of natural causes at around 7am."

"His son Fajal suffered a heart attack upon hearing about the father's death. The son died at around 8am," Tajul added.

Noman Miah, Sarail upazila health and family planning officer, said, "We sent a medical team to the village after hearing about the incident."

"None of them had coronavirus symptoms. They both died of natural causes," he added.
