Indices of both stock exchanges declined on Monday (8 May) due to the investors selling off to realise a quick profit.

At the end of the session, the benchmark index DSEX of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell by 7 points to 6,261, whereas the port city bourse Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) all-share price index CASPI plunged by 7 points to 18,474.

At that time, out of the total scrips being traded, 74 advanced, 65 declined and 225 unchanged at the DSE.

The turnover value of the DSE also fell by 10% to Tk759 crore during the session from the previous.

Meanwhile, textile companies lead the gainer chart at the DSE, where Generation Next secured the top position of the table.

Its shares jumped by 10% to close at Tk6.6 on the day, which was followed by Zaheen Spinning, Apex Spinning and Hwa Well Textile.

Sea Pearl's shares had the worse performance on the day its share price fell by 8% to close at Tk210.

The other top loser was Al-Haj Textile, Midland Bank and Heidelberg Cement.
