Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering today called Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and greeted her on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this afternoon and extended heartfelt greetings to her and the people of Bangladesh marking the celebrations of 'Mujib Borsho' (Mujib Year)," Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told BSS.

The Bhutanese premier informed his Bangladesh counterpart that the people of Bhutan celebrated Bangabandhu's birth centenary and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul by lighting up 1,000 'pradeep' (lamps) of 'ghee'.

Lotay Tshering wished Bangladesh and its people continued peace, progress and prosperity, the press secretary said.

In reply, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina extended her sincere thanks to the Bhutanese premier and the people for celebrating the Mujib Year.

The prime minister also wished Bhutan and its people continued peace, progress and prosperity.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister (CM) of Indian State of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb greeted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion of the Mujib Year.

The press secretary said the Tripura CM phoned the prime minister this afternoon and extended heartfelt greetings to her and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.
