Retail LPG price soon to be set: Energy division

The government has taken the initiative to set the price – currently controlled by the business community – of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Following a court order, the government took this decision, said Anisur Rahman, senior secretary to the Energy & Mineral Resources Division.

He stated this at a program where the State Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the "Online Services of the Department of Explosives," in the conference room of the energy division on Monday.

The energy division's senior secretary said that the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission has already started working on the pricing method.

Pointing to the demand for LPG, Nasrul Hamid said that there must be a specific guideline on appointing dealerships, agents and sub-agents.

Asking the Explosives Department to play a pivotal role in the safe use of LPG, Nasrul Hamid said, "The responsibilities of this department have broadened due to increased LPG demand. To avoid LPG gas explosions, many campaigns are needed to raise awareness."

Currently, the country has demand for six lakh tonnes of LPG annually.

Last year, 5.54 lakh tonnes of LPG were imported and sold by both public and private sector entrepreneurs.

Still, LPG has good prospects as pipeline gas supplies have been cancelled by the energy division.

For LPG import and supply, interested companies are seeking to obtain the necessary certificate from the Department of Explosives.

After introducing this service, from now on, consumers will be able to access all required documents online.
