Taylor Swift as “The man”

Tylor Swift's music video for "The Man" came out late last month and it was something different from Taylor Swift's fans have ever seen. Not only was the pop star's transformation into an arrogant, self-absorbed businessman absolutely uncanny, but she also directed it. 

But the video for the singer-songwriter's single—hailed by some as a feminist anthem—hinges around the lewd antics of a suit-clad chauvinist with a Trumpian hairdo. His name is "Tyler" Swift, and he parties on yachts, throws temper tantrums at tennis matches, and melts down at work.

Of course, Tyler Swift is actually Taylor Swift, disguised in a full-body muscle suit, ten silicon prosthetics, and a lots of makeup. The dramatic five-hour-long transformation—so chameleonic even die hard Swift fans were unable to recognize her until the last transformation scene.

In addition to being entertaining, "The Man" video had some important messages regarding toxic masculinity.

"With this video I wanted to show the heightened version of how the world reacts to someone who's male, hot, rich and young," she said.

"I wanted to show how there's, like, immediate approval and benefit of the doubt given. And I wanted to show it in a really ridiculous, fantasized way."
