The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will continue selling of essential items at subsidised prices to the low-income families of the country, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said.

"One crore families will be sold essential items through this. If there is any irregularity or manipulation in the sale of TCB products, action will be taken against those responsible," Commerce Minister Tip Munshi said while inaugurating TCB's subsidised sale programme at the capital's  Mohammadpur area on Tuesday (2 August) morning.

"The government will continue the sell TCB products at subsidised prices among the one crore family cardholders of the country in the month of mourning," the minister added.

"Sugar, lentil, soya bean oil and onion will be sold in fixed quantities at fixed prices. All these products will be sold to one-crore card holders. To maintain discipline in the sale of products, these products are no longer being sold in the truck sale. These products are being sold nationwide from designated shops or establishments of appointed dealers," he further said.

A person can purchase a maximum of two litres of soybean oil, two kg of lentils, one kg of sugar and two kg of onions from the TCB using the family cards provided by the state.

Soybean oil is being sold at Tk110 per litre, sugar at Tk 55 per kg, lentil at Tk 65 and onion at Tk 20 per kg.

However, onions will be sold only in City Corporation areas and TCB regional office-affiliated districts.

Ministry of Commerce Senior Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, TCB Chairman Brigadier Zeller Md Ariful Hasan, Ministry of Commerce Additional Secretary Ali Ahad Khan and other ministry and TCB officials were present during the inauguration programme.
