Human trafficking gang busted in Cumilla, 3 Rohingyas rescued

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained three members of a human trafficking racket and rescued three Rohingyas including a girl from Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila.

The detained traffickers are - Md Abdur Rahim alias Rubel, 25, Md Nurul Haque, 29, and Md Kazi Faisal Ahammed alias Rony, 32. They are resident of the same the upazila.

The rescued Rohingyas, including a girl, are from different camps of Cox's Bazar.

A team of RAB-11 and Crime Prevention Company-2 detained them from Dharkara Bazar and Chiora areas of Chauddagram upazila.

Company Commander Major Talukdar Nazmus Sakib said, "The detained miscreants had been luring the Rohingyas from various refugee camps and brought them to Cumilla and other districts of the country. The refugees were being promised to be sent abroad but were trafficked to Malaysia and other countries using the forged Bangladeshi passports."

Huge amount of fake passports, including birth certificates and other necessary documents to forge the passports, were recovered from their possession.

The elite force unit also recovered three computers, two printers, one scanner, seven mobile phones and Tk60,000 from the detainees.

A case will be filed in this connection with the Chauddagram Police Station.
