Former state minister Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj’s nephew Syed Iftekhar Alam Sourav has been rescued from Mymensingh’s Tarakanda upazila early Thursday after 11 days of his abduction.

Mymensingh Superintendent of Police (SP) Shah Abid Hossain at a briefing said: "The abductors dropped Sourav near a rice mill in Battola area around 5:30am. Then Sourav walked into the mill by himself.

"There Sourav met a man named Samir and requested him to call his family. Samir informed Sourav's family about his whereabouts and his family notified the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police."

SP Shah Abid said, "CTTC's Chittagong branch called me over phone to rescue Sourav from the mill. A police team rushed to the spot and found Sourav sitting on a chair in front of the rice mill. He looked healthy."

However, Sourav did not disclose anything about the abduction, the SP added.

Later Sourav was sent to his home in Dhaka.

Claims of Sourav's family

On June 9, miscreants picked up Sourav from in front of Afmi Plaza in Chattogram city. Later, his family filed a general diary with Panchlaish police station.

On June 17, Sourav's mother at a press conference in Dhaka said her son went missing when he went to respond to a job offer from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

“RAB officials contacted Sourav and told him to be present in front of Agora in the Chattogram Mimi Super Market area at 7pm with his passport, certificates, and CV, on June 9,” she said in the press conference.

The incident came to light on June 14 when Sohel Taj uploaded a post on his Facebook page.
