United Hospital marks World Cancer Day with patient forum

World Cancer day is observed on February 4 every year, and United Hospital marked the day by organising a patient forum with cancer survivors on Monday.

The theme of the event was "I am & I will," keeping in line with the hospital's pledge to maintain that cancer patients "are not alone".

The hospital honoured ten cancer survivors who attended the event.

Mohsena Tabassum Mimla, one of the survivors, expressed how boldly she had been coping with the disease every day.

Khaleda Perveen, another survivor, talked of her confidence in the care and treatment she had received at United Hospital.

A recent press release said that at the event, there were discussions on the role of doctors and healthcare providers in tackling family and social challenges.

Prof Dr Subhagata Choudhury and Environmentalist Syeda Rizwana Hasan were present as Special Guests.

"The alarming increase of the incidence of cancer has become a matter of serious concern for Bangladesh," said Faizur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of United Hospital, adding that he had been honoured to help cancer survivors through their Cancer Care centre for the last ten years.

Every year 12 million people are diagnosed with cancer globally. Among them, 7.6 million die.

Mr Faridur Rahman Khan, managing director of United Hospital, said in the programme that experts have predicted the number will rise to 26 million by 2030.

"We need positive intentions and effort of the hospital to do the best for the patients," he added.
