A case was filed with the Gulshan Police Station on Tuesday in connection with the thievery in the residence of the finance minister.

According to the first information report, Salma Begum, a domestic help at the minister's Gulshan residence, broke the lock of minister's wife Kashmiri Kamal's almirah and stole Tk70,000 on December 13.

Jahangir Hossain, manager of Lotus Kamal Group of Companies, filed the lawsuit with Gulshan Police Station on behalf of the minister, said Rafiqul Islam, an assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Gulshan zone).

Salma Begum has been absconding since the incident and did not receive Kashmiri Kamal's phone calls for two days. Later, she received her phone call on December 15 and admitted her misdeed.

Though the domestic help promised to return the money she switched off her mobile phone and did not make any contact later.

The incident took place 20 days ago, however, the police have not been able to arrest her yet.

Khorshed Alam, the investigating officer of the case, said they were trying to arrest her.

"We are trying our best to arrest her with the help of modern technology. We will reach her within a short time," he added.

Salma Begum came to Dhaka in January last year from Atrai Upazila of Dinajpur district. On September 15, she started working at the minister's Gulshan residence as a domestic help.
