In a development in the actor Pori Moni case, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Golam Saqlain has been transferred to the DMP's Public Order Management (POM), West Division, from the Detective Branch.

DMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Iftekhairul Islam has confirmed the news.

The decision was made following reports of several media outlets that claimed Golam Saqlain had engaged in unprofessional conduct with Pori Moni while supervising the case filed by the actor against five persons, including businessman Nasir U Mahmud.

DB Additional Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akhtar told The Business Standard (TBS) that DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam ordered the transfer on Saturday afternoon after attending several high-level official meetings since morning.

A probe committee will be formed to investigate the allegation of unprofessional conduct with Pori Moni against ADC Golam Saqlain, he added.

Till filing the report on Saturday night, no probe body was formed to investigate the allegation against Saqlain, according to sources.

DMP's Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Faruq Hossain told TBS that Saqlain was barred from all DB responsibilities before the transfer order.

According to media reports, Golam Saqlain has a close relationship with Pori Moni, who used to visit his house.

The accused officer, however, denied the allegation against him.

He said that Pori Moni had called him as the investigating officer of the case. But she did not visit his house and he has no relationship with her.

Pori Moni in CID custody

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the investigation of the narcotics case filed against Pori Moni. The case was handed over to the CID from the DB.

The CID took her into custody during remand on Saturday.

CID Additional DIG Sheikh Omar Faruk told reporters at the CID office in Malibagh, "The CID has been tasked with investigating seven cases filed against actress Pori Moni, models Faria Mahbub Piasha and Mariam Akhter Mou, and producer Nazrul Islam Raj. We have already received the documents of the cases. The accused are already being questioned as part of the investigation."

The additional DIG said, "CID has a variety of expert systems, such as DNA lab, forensic lab, and chemical lab. So, we can do the investigation thoroughly and efficiently. However, it will take time for us to complete the investigation of the cases."

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, the CID again raided Pori Moni's residence at Banani. The CID's organised crime team seized four mobiles, two passports, two laptops, three different bank credit cards as evidence of investigation, a source from CID confirmed TBS.

The CID team also raided Piasha, Mou, Raj, Piasha's accomplice Mishu Hasan and Helena Jahangir's residences for further investigation.

Omar Faruq told TBS that after taking the charges of seven different cases on Saturday, they are collecting some evidence relevant to the investigation.

Meanwhile, an additional special superintendent of CID organised crime team told TBS that CID's drives against the close accomplices of actor Pori Moni will continue.

He said people "involved in various misdeeds with Pori Moni" will be brought to book in next few days.

"We are also primarily investigating money laundering issues of Pori Moni, Piasha, Mou and their accomplices. If we get concrete information, money laundering cases will be filed," he added.

Sources said Pori Moni has mentioned the names of some influential people who have good relations with her. Among these influential people who are rich in the society, there are 4/5 businessmen including two officers in the position of managing director of two private banks. The actor gave this information during the first day of interrogation conducted by the CID.

A senior CID official said that all the accused of the seven cases have been spoken to on the first day. Based on the information received from Pori Moni, the managing director of a private bank living at Banani in the capital was interrogated on Saturday night. He allegedly gifted a car worth Tk3.5 crore to the actor. We are inquiring why he gave the car and from where, he got so much money.

BFAA suspends Pori Moni's membership

Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association (BFAA) has suspended actor Pori Moni's membership on allegation of tarnishing the image of the organisation.

The association leaders disclosed the information at a press conference in Dhaka on Saturday.

Misha Sawdagor, president of the association, said, "The incident of Pori Moni is embarrassing for our film and artistes' community. We do not condone any wrongdoing."

He informed that the decision to suspend Pori Moni's membership was taken at the association meeting.

Jimy placed on 3-day remand

Meanwhile, Pori Moni's costume designer Junaid Karim Jimy was placed on a three-day remand by a Dhaka court on Saturday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masud-ur-Rahman passed the order following an application by the DB of the DMP.

Earlier, Abdus Sobhan, investigation officer of the case and an inspector of DB's Gulshan zonal team, produced Jimy before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.

The DB arrested him from a house at Gulshan on Friday. At that time, 225 pieces of yaba were recovered from his possession, claimed police sources.
