Police rescued a man from Tongi on Tuesday night, eight hours after he had been abducted from Gazipur district. 

Police also arrested five people for their involvement in the abduction of Khokon Molla of Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj district. 

Confirming the news, Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Tongi Paschim Police Station, said police conducted drives at different areas in Tongi and arrested the five on Tuesday night.

The arrestees were identified as Majnu, 27, of Sherpur, Al Amin, 25, of Rangpur, Shapon, 22, of Natore, Foisal, 31 and Wasim, 34, of Tongi.  

A group, including the arrestees, kidnapped Khokon Molla when he was going to the mosque on Monday around 8pm. 

Later, they threatened him with sharp weapons and demanded a ransom of Tk1 lakh from his family. Afterwards, his relatives, sent Tk25,000 through a Bkash and informed the police. A case was filed in this regard.

Prime accused Mamun is on run. 

Police have sought seven-day remands for the arrestees, the OC added.
