Rooftop farming model wins CUET Hult Prize

Team Farmerians have emerged champions in the On Campus round of the Hult Prize competition with their commercial model of rooftop agriculture. The model is designed focusing organic farming. 

Meantime, Team Dominator have won the runners-up title. The team showcased the model of a modern dustbin which collect plastic garbage in exchange for money.   

The grand finale of the Hult Prize On Campus round was held at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) on Friday.

Six teams selected in the semi-finals took part in the finale at CUET auditorium. Four others were Rookie, Eco Block, Blaze and Rural Kings. 

The competition began at 11:00 am and the teams elaborated their business ideas before the judges and audiences. Then they faced a question-answer session where the judges examined the viability of the concepts.         

The champions will contest the regional round to be held in India, Malaysia or Indonesia.                  

The Hult Prize competition takes place in over 2,000 universities around the world and CUET is one of the twenty universities in Bangladesh, which organise the campus round competition in Bangladesh.

CUET has been hosting Hult Prize campus rounds since 2017. This year the slogan of the Hult Prize was, "Building startups that have a positive impact on our planet with every dollar earned".

The judges of the grand finale were — UNDP Programme Specialist Arif Faisal, ILO Trainee Officer SM Borhan Uddin, Ranks FC Properties Chief Executive Tanvir Shahriar Rimon, PHP Family Secretary Md Najmul Hasan, Novelty Engineering Corporation Managing Director Md Intekhab Alam, IDOPI Managing Partner Montasir Hossain and Silmoon Electrodes Limited Head of Project Sajjadul Mawla.
