Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN-14) in charge of security at the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar, have detained 10 Rohingyas fleeing from Bhasan Char in Noakhali.

APBN-14 Commander (Superintendent of Police) NaimulHaque confirmed that they were detained from Kutupalong Madhurachhara area on Saturday afternoon and sent to a transit camp.

The commander of APBN-14 said, the members of APBN stationed in Madhurchhara of KutupalongRohingya camp came to know that several members of two Rohingya families from Bhasan Char had fled to the camp and staying with relatives.

Before moving to Bhasan Char, they were residents of Block 9, Kutupalong Rohingya Camp-3.

On Saturday afternoon, armed police, with the help of local fishermen, detained Enayet Ullah and Kefayet Ullah from the homes of other Rohingyas in the camp. A total of 10 other members of their family were later detained.

Citing them, Superintendent of Police Naimul Haque further said that the detainees paid a broker Tk 15,000 to drop them at a place in Noakhali on 8 May in a trawler from Bhasan Char.

Later, in a car, they reached Ukhia.

SP Naimul Haque said, "They were handed over to the camp in-charge after detaining them. They were later sent to a transit camp. These detained Rohingyas voluntarily left the Kutupalong Rohingya camp for Bhasan Char on 3 March. During questioning, the detained Rohingyas said that although there were modern facilities in Bhasan Char, they did not like it there. So they escaped through brokers."

Additional Commissioner of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office, Shamsuddoja Nayan said, "Those who had fled Bhasan Char would be sent back to Bhasan Char, wherever they were found."
