UK travellers banned from entering Germany

Travellers from the United Kingdom will be unable to enter Germany as of Sunday unless they hold German citizenship or are residents of Germany.
The decision was made in response to an increase in cases of the Indian variant in the United Kingdom, reports the BBC.
German citizens and residents, as well as those in extraordinary circumstances, can still enter - but they will be subjected to a two-week quarantine.

In Germany, the Indian variant currently makes up about 2% of new infections. But there are fears that if it spreads here, as it has in parts of the UK, the recent progress fighting the pandemic could be undermined.
