Bangladesh has sent the second consignment of medical supplies for the Covid-19 affected people of India.

The deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata handed over 2,672 boxes of medicines and protective items to the representative of the Indian Red Cross Society at Petrapole on Tuesday, said a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  

The four covered vans containing these medicines reached the Benapole-Petrapole land port on Tuesday morning.

The health ministry sent these medicines which were produced by Essential Drugs Co Ltd after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave instructions in this regard. The foreign ministry coordinated and facilitated the initiative.

The consignment contains 18 different kinds of Covid-19 related medicines which include antibiotics, paracetamol, and different kind of injections, vials and hand sanitisers.

Bangladesh sent the first consignment of 10,000 vials of antiviral injection Remdisivir on 6 May, 2021 as gifts for the Indian people in the backdrop of the unprecedented surge of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, the Bangladeshi prime minister expressed her sympathy for the Indian people and reiterated Bangladesh's support to stand by her closest neighbour India during their critical time and expressed readiness to offer support in every possible way.
