Gas pipeline blast not behind Chattogram fire: Probe committee

A four-member probe committee formed by the Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd said the fire incident in Chattogram's Patharghata, which killed seven people and injured 21 others, did not happen due to gas pipeline blast.

Khayes Ahmed Majumdar, managing director of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company, said, "The members of the committee visited the spot and found the gas stove and other furniture of the house were not damaged.

"Those would have been destroyed if the fire had been caused by gas pipeline blast."
"A primary investigation indicates a gas pipeline blast behind the Patharghata explosion," said Md Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defence.
"Also, leak from the dilapidated gas riser used in the pipeline there might have turned the area into a gas chamber," he said, adding that more details on the explosion are expected in the probe report.
