Awami League Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury's son Sharun Chowdhury claims the screenshots of conversations between him and Mosarat Jahan Munia that are making the rounds on social media are completely false.

Saying the screenshots are baseless and fabricated, he claims they have been Photoshopped.

"Screenshots should have different signs but those that spread on social media do not have any. A group has done this deliberately to divert the course of events," he claims.

Talking to The Business Standard on Wednesday, he demanded that the screenshots be subjected to forensic testing, adding that the test results would reveal the screenshots had been fabricated.

He claimed he had no relationship or contact with Munia, who had been found hanging in a flat in the capital's Gulshan on Monday night.

"Munia contacted me on Facebook Messenger a year ago and introduced herself as the girlfriend of the Bashundhara Group's managing director. I told her I had no interest in that."

Bashundhara Group Managing Director, Sayem Sobhan Anvir, is said to have a relationship with Sharun's former wife, which led to her divorce from Sharun.

"My ex-wife had a relationship with the Bashundhara Group's managing director. She still has. I am not concerned about who has a relationship with my former wife," said Sharun, who has a daughter with his former wife.

He said no one from law enforcement had talked to him about the screenshots but someone had dialed from a number in London and had asked him about their authenticity.

"I told him those were not true. He is not a law enforcement official. If a law enforcement official of Bangladesh called me, he would have dialed from a Bangladeshi number or revealed his identity."

The screenshots show Munia wrote to Sharun that she was not fine.

"He will not marry me. What will I do?" she wrote.

Sharun replied, "I told you earlier not to listen to him. He told my wife he would marry her but he did not. My daughter is now separated from her mother."

Meanwhile, the wife of a deceased banker named Morshed in Chattogram alleged that Sharun had been involved in getting her husband to commit suicide.

But Sharun described the allegation as false and fabricated. He said he was not involved in the incident in any way and his political opponents were trying to serve their interests by involving him.

"Morshed had no business dealings or social relations with me," he added.

Police on Wednesday said Munia, a second-year student at a college in Dhaka, had committed suicide.

Sudip Kumar Chakroborty, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan police of Gulshan division, told reporters CCTV footage had not shown any movement of Anvir in Munia's flat on the day of the incident and the day before.

"We are now scrutinising Munia's diary and phone to find out whether there was any instigation behind her suicide," he said.
