Five policemen, including Mollahat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Golam Kabir, were injured during an attack by Hefazat activists in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat District on Monday.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, OC Golam Kabir said the incident took place near Mollahat Upazila Health Complex today at 11:15 am.

He said, "Police rushed to the spot as students and teachers of various madrasas started to gather near the health complex to protest against the arrest of Hefazat leader Mamunul Haque."

"Upon being asked about the non-permitted gathering they attacked police and injured five members of the police," he added.

The injured have been admitted to Mollahat Upazila Health Complex.

Earlier on Sunday, Hefazat-e-Islam's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque was arrested from Jamia Rahmania Madrasa in Dhaka's Mohammadpur area.
