Everything will be fine again if we survive, says PM 

Emphasizing survival, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "If we survive this Covid-19 situation, everything will be fine again."

"We all have to remember that life comes first. If we survive, everything will be fine again,"  said the premier delivering a speech from her official residence on the occasion of the Bangla New Year. 

Wishing the nation a Happy New Year, the Prime Minister called upon the people to celebrate the Bengali New Year with indoor programmes.

"We have to impose some restrictions on the movement of people as the second wave has taken an alarming turn in the country. There is no way to stop the infection. So we have to take some more drastic measures on the advice of public health experts. I know this will make life difficult for many," prime minister said.

She said a 72-day general holiday was enforced last year to curb the infections and, with everyone's cooperation,  the country was able to successfully handle the Covid-19 situation that time.

The government has already announced 23 incentive packages worth about Tk1,24,053 crore, said the prime minister.

Measures have been taken so that production is not disrupted in factories and the government has also taken initiative to increase agricultural production in the country.

The Prime Minister said the second wave of coronavirus infections has hit the whole country again and this second wave is even more deadly. 

Under the circumstances, she urged people to enjoy Pohela Boishakh sitting at home like last year. 

The programme will be broadcast over various digital channels, including television channels. Besides enjoying all those broadcast events, people can also enjoy themselves in a home environment with family members, she added.
