After killing twelve people in the eastern states of West Bengal and Odisha, cyclone Bulbul has now weakened into a depression. The weatherman has predicted heavy rainfall in parts of West Bengal and northeastern states.

"The deep depression weakened into a depression over southeast Bangladesh and adjoining south Tripura at 0530 IST of 11th Nov. To weaken into a low during next 6 hrs," IMD said in its weather forecast for cyclone Bulbul.

In West Bengal, five people were killed in Basirhat, while South 24 Parganas recorded two deaths and another succumbed in East Midnapore. In most parts of coastal Odisha, heavy rain and high-velocity winds triggered by cyclone 'Bulbul' claimed at least two lives and wreaked havoc.

The cyclonic storm made landfall late on Saturday between Sagar Island of West Bengal and Khepupara in Bangladesh, and moved northwestwards into the neighbouring country over the Sunderban delta.

In West Bengal, Bulbul has affected 4.65 lakh people and damaged around 60,000 houses.

The cyclone season in the Bay of Bengal can last from April to December. In 1999 a super-cyclone battered the coast of India's Odisha state for 30 hours, killing 10,000 people.
