23 passengers rescued after 999 call

Around 23 passengers of a boat on Tetulia River were saved from drowning today, after a passenger sought help by calling the national emergency helpline (999).

After receiving the 999 call, Bangladesh Coast Guard and rescue team of law enforcement agency reached to the spot and rescued the passengers.

Additional Deputy Inspector General of NES Md Tabaraqullah said, seven people are still reportedly missing in the incident.

A passenger of the boat named Ramzan called 999 and informed them about the location of the boat, Kirtibas Dhali, Sub-inspector told The Business Standard.

"Then Coast Guard and others approached to the spot and managed to rescue 23 persons," he added.
