Irfan Salim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Md Salim, has filed a petition with the appellate division, seeking withdrawal of its stay order on bail in a case filed for assaulting a navy officer in October last year.

On Tuesday, the Chamber judge of the Appellate Division, Hasan Fayez Siddiqui, ordered the people concerned to keep the appeal on Thursday's case list.

The petition will be heard in court on Thursday, lawyers said.

Advocates Abdul Baset Majumder and Sayeed Ahmed Raja moved for Irfan Salim while additional attorney general Sheikh Mohammad Morshed represented the state in court.

On 18 March, the High Court (HC) granted him permanent bail in the case after hearing a bail petition filed by Irfan.

On 28 March, the Chamber judge of the Appellate Division stayed for four weeks, a High Court verdict that granted bail to Irfan Salim following a petition filed by the state challenging the HC bail.

Irfan Salim then appealed to the Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division to withdraw the stay order.

On 25 October last year, Irfan reportedly assaulted Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy and his wife near the Kalabagan crossing in the neighbourhood of Dhanmondi in Dhaka after the officer's motorcycle collided with Irfan's car.

The officer filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station against the lawmaker's son and others a day later.

Following the case, RAB launched a drive and arrested Irfan and his bodyguard Md Jahidul Islam.

Irfan's bail application in the case was rejected by a Dhaka court on 27 December last year. Irfan then appealed in the High Court, which granted him bail on 18 March this year.
