Road Transport Act aimed at bringing discipline on roads: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said the Road Transport Act has been enacted aiming to bring discipline on roads and highways of the country.

"Our main target is to bring discipline on roads…it's our challenge, and the Road Transport Act has been enacted to this end," he said while talking to reporters after visiting an under- construction flyover at Shafipur on Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The much-talked-about Road Transport Act came into effect on Friday. The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry issued a notification in this regard on October 22.

The 'Road Transport Bill-2018' was passed by parliament on September 19, 2018, keeping a provision of maximum five years' jail for any death or serious injuries caused by reckless or negligent driving.

About intruders into the ruling party, Quader said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made a list of 1,500 intruders. We've handed over the list to those concerned at the divisional level. Intruders, controversial people and wrongdoers will have no room in the party leadership," he said.

"Those who joined Awami League with a clean image from other political parties aren't intruders …we welcome them," he said.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Dhaka Divisional Engineer Sabuj Uddin Khan, Deputy Commissioner SM Tariqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Shamsunnahar and high officials concerned of the Roads and Highways Department were present.
