Members of Bangladesh Ansar found foreign liquor in a car bearing a sticker of Chattogram Port on Monday night.

The car driver and a CNG auto-rickshaw driver were detained then, while they were trying to transfer the liquor from the car to the auto-rickshaw inside the Chattogram Customs House.

A K M Sultan Mahmud, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Customs House, provided this information at a press conference on Tuesday.

Mahmud said that a car with the monogram of Chattogram Port and an "Emergency Pilot Duty" sticker entered the customs house on Monday night. At the time, foreign liquor was being transferred to a CNG auto-rickshaw from the car, which was spotted by the Ansar members on duty.

"When the Ansar members asked the car's driver about the products, both the CNG and the car driver attempted to flee the scene. Ansar members then locked the main gate of the customs house and detained the two vehicles. A search was carried out afterwards where the liquor was found," Mahmud added.

Later, the car driver Montu Chandra Das and CNG auto-rickshaw driver Masud Rana were handed over to the Port Police Station.

At the press conference, the deputy commissioner suspected that the foreign liquor was smuggled from inside the port via the monogrammed vehicle and was later being transferred to the auto-rickshaw inside the customs house.

Abdullah Al Masum, assistant revenue officer of Chattogram Customs House, later filed a case with the Port Police Station.

Chattogram Port Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin confirmed the information about the case to The Business Standard. He said that action will be taken against the culprits following an investigation.

Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Omar Farooq said, "We will investigate possible gang involvement in transporting drugs using the official stickers of Chattogram Port."
