Alor Pakhi Foundation, a Dhaka-based organisation that works with children with special needs, celebrated Martyrs' Day in a unique manner by arranging free dental checkups for children with special needs.

The organisation started the day at 10am with a morning procession in which some 50 children, their guardians, the chief guest, the chairman and vice-chairman of the foundation, the foundation's treasurer, and several others took part.

The procession then reached the main venue at the Maula Bakhsh Charitable Eye Hospital, read a press release.

The day was observed in two segments. During the first part, guests were received with flowers and crests.

Omar Farooq Chowdhury, career trainer and CEO BL Academy Bangladesh, was present at the occasion as the chief guest. Meanwhile, Dr Mahmud Saikat, dental surgeon at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib University; Jhumna Mallick Jhumi, chairman, Alor Pakhi Foundation; Mahbub Alam, vice chairman and project director; and Md Farhad Khan, treasurer were also present, among others.

Parents of the chairman of the foundation and the mother of the treasurer were also honoured.

"If we did not have our guardians, we would not be here today, so, we had to acknowledge them for their contributions," said Jhumna Mallick.

The second segment of the day started with cutting a cake with the children. Then the dental checkup began. Doctors advised the children and their parents about maintaining proper dental health.

At the end of the day, a cultural program was held.
