Popular musician, composer and playback singer Faruq Mahfuz Anam, popularly known as James, received a COVID-19 vaccine shot on Wednesday at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

The rock icon received the jab at around 1pm. He is the first music star in Bangladesh to get vaccinated.

James himself contacted the hospital for his vaccination, according to his secretary Rubaiyat Thakur Robin.

He also informed the media that the rockstar, lovingly called 'Nagar Baul', is healthy and doing well after taking the vaccine.

"James has asked his fans and admirers to get vaccinated," he said.

Earlier, noted actress and parliamentarian Suborna Mustafa got herself vaccinated on Monday in the Parliament House premises. She received the vaccine as a Member of the Parliament.

Popular host, radio jockey and actress Nawsheen Nahreen Mou, who is currently staying in the United States with her husband and actor-food vlogger Adnan Faruque Hillol, received the Pfizer jab on January 5, becoming the first Bangladeshi artist to get vaccinated.

One of the most popular music artists in Bangladesh, James is known as one of the prolific journeymen in the history of modern rock in Bangladesh. He is the frontman of his band 'Nagar Baul' (formerly known as 'Feelings').

Besides the other two companions on the band, LRB (led by late rock legend Ayub Bachchu) and ARK in the 'Big Three of Bangladeshi Rock' in the 90's era in the Bangladeshi music industry, James garnered immense popularity among fans all over the world with his versatile style in psychedelic rock.

He has also established his legacy as a solo artist and a successful playback singer in both Dhallywood and Bollywood. In 2006, he debuted in Bollywood as a playback singer in Anurag Basu's film 'Gangstar', and his journey in Bollywood continued with three other films - 'Woh Lamhe' (2006), 'Life... in a Metro' (2007) and 'Warning' (2013).

Apart from being a legendary rock superstar and a renowned photographer, James has also won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer twice for his performance in the films Desha: The Leader (2014) and Swatta (2017).
