Dr Salim said, “A well-educated person is strong in self-awareness through his intellect, thinking, wisdom and creativity. The main goal of SDG-4 is to ensure inclusive, sustainable, equitable and quality education for all in the society.”

Reduce the digital divide to ensure inclusive education: Dr Salim

Chairman of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation Professor Dr Salim Uddin said that reduction of the digital divide is necessary to ensure inclusive and quality education.

Dr Salim made the statement while speaking at a webinar titled 'SDG-4: Quality Education" organised by the SDG Youth Forum on Monday, said a press release issued by Bangladesh House Building Corporation on Tuesday.

The webinar was presided over by President of the SDG Youth Forum Noman Ullah Bahar while Dr Muhammad Kamal Uddin conducted the session.

Dr Salim said that education helps to develop skilled people by broadening and enriching the scope of knowledge by expanding insight. 

Dr Salim said, "A well-educated person is strong in self-awareness through his intellect, thinking, wisdom and creativity. The main goal of SDG-4 is to ensure inclusive, sustainable, equitable and quality education for all in the society." 

"In order to ensure education for all around the world, Global Action Program has been identified five priorities in the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) which includes concerned policy supports, whole institutional approaches, educators, youth and local communities," added Dr Salim.

Professor Selim Uddin further said that effective steps are needed to make up for the shortfall in the education sector due to the long closure of education activities due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

During the webinar, Dr Selim emphasised on ensuring protection of physical and mental health of students in particular, resumption of education as soon as possible in compliance with hygiene rules, to increase supervision to ensure that no student drops out from primary to higher secondary levels, taking up nutritious food distribution program in educational institutions and eliminating inequality in rural-urban educational institutions. 

In addition, he urged concerned authorities to ensure adequate allocation to the sector as well as incentives when needed. 

Academician and Instructor of Chittagong Government Teachers Training College Shamsuddin Shishir, Chairman of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Ahsan Habib, Central Organizer of Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA) Mihir Biswas, , Assistant Professor at Chittagong Cantonment Public College Mia Mohammad Yousuf Chowdhury, researcher at Seljuk University in Turkey Zobayer Ahmed, Educationist Shafkat Jahan, Country Manager at Obat Helpers Sohel Akter Khan, Youth Organizer Mohammad Zakaria, Vice President at North South University Model United Nations Club Galib Akand, Coeditor at Daffodil International University Computer Programming Club Abdullah Al Raihan, Convener at Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development Club of Comilla University Asma Akter Mukta, Office secretary at SDG Youth Forum Minhazur Rahman Shihab, Officer at "The Hunger Project" Quader Sami along with other officials of the SDG Youth Forum were present during the webinar.
