HC orders Engr Ishraq to surrender to court

The High Court has ordered Engineer Ishraq Hossain, son of late BNP leader Sadek Hossain Khoka, to surrender to the court in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), alleging non-submission of asset statement.

The court also accepted ACC's appeal against Ishraq's acquittal.

A single member HC bench of Justice Mohammad Salim passed the order on Monday. Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan spoke on behalf of ACC in the court.

He said the HC had accepted ACC's appeal against his acquittal and ordered Ishraq Hossain to surrender to the court, which had acquitted him. The HC also issued an order to grant bail to the accused following his surrender.

In August 2010, the erstwhile Assistant Director of ACC Md Shamsul Alam filed a case against Ishraq with Ramna Police Station in the capital, alleging non-submission of asset statement despite receiving a notice to do so.

According to the case statement, on September 1, 2008, ACC issued a notice to Ishraq and his dependents, asking them to submit asset statements.

The case statement alleges that the accused committed a punishable offense under Section 26(2)(a) of the ACC Act by not submitting the assets account on the due date.

On 25 November 2018, ACC filed the charge-sheet against him in the case.

On 14 January last year, the same court ordered the trial to begin after framing charges.

Following the trial, on 23 November last year, Justice Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka's 4th Special Judge's Court acquitted Ishraq in the case.

ACC then appealed to the High Court against the acquittal.
