Police determined to make Bangladesh militancy-free: IGP
The police chief said there is no room for complacency until the last trace of extremism is rooted out
Terming militancy a global phenomenon, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has said that Bangladesh is facing challenges like other countries.
"So far, we have successfully protected our country from the rise of militancy. We want to uproot the evil completely from Bangladesh," Benazir told a programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines on Sunday.
While speaking as the chief guest, the IGP said militants have targeted Bangladesh various times for various reasons, including its geographical location.

"However, with the support and help of our peace-loving people, we have been able to thwart their every attempt," he said.
Yet, the police chief said there is no room for complacency until the last trace of extremism is rooted out.
Criticising people who are sceptical over the recent surrender of nine militants to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the IGP said there are always some people who take things negatively.
"I think they need psychiatric treatment," he said.
Benazir said militants are currently using social media platforms to continue and spread their activities. He said police are alert and cyber patrolling has been strengthened.
The Police's Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) organised the programme, which launched an awareness-building video commercial to prevent online-based extremism and militancy.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, Head of the ATU Kamrul Ahsan and other high-level police officials were also present at the programme.
