4 held for human trafficking, fraud
The apprehended members are a part of an international human trafficking group
A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested four members of an international human traffickers' group from the capital's Uttara recently.
CID's Dhaka Metropolitan (West) team conducted the operation after receiving complaints from victims, read a press release.
During the raid, CID recovered 28 passports, 19 seals of different embassies, banks, and agencies, and 10 fake visas of Cambodia.

According to the press release issued by CID, the apprehended members are a part of an international human trafficking group. This group collects jobseekers willing to go abroad and work in countries like Malta, the Czech Republic, and Hungary etc.
The traffickers then send them to India on visit visa through land check posts via unlicensed agencies without permission from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET).
After taking to India, the traffickers provide the jobseekers with fake visas and pressure them to bring money from their families. Failing to do so results in torture.
The jobseekers are then taken to Sri Lanka by road and air and once the money is received, they are abandoned in the jungles.
Citizens from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives are members of this international organised criminal group.
