Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has vowed to continue the ongoing eviction drive against illegal structures in the city and will not compromise in any way.

''If any individual person is humiliated in the process of making Dhaka a good-governed city, it is that person's issue. It is not the city corporation's concern,'' he said.

Mayor Taposh made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Interim Secondary Transfer Station (STS) at Basabo Balur Math area under ward # 4 of the DSCC on Wednesday.

He said, "A well-governed Dhaka was the key agenda of our manifesto. A developed Dhaka will not be possible without transforming the city into a well-governed one."

Announcing the elimination of corruption from Dhaka South, Mayor Taposh further said the ongoing eviction of unplanned shops is against all illegal occupants, not against any individual in particular. Any negligence, misconduct or embezzlement will not be tolerated in any way.

"We are seriously pursuing the work of building a well-governed Dhaka. If we cannot build a well-governed city, then all our efforts will be in vain. From the very first day, we have been taking a robust effort to eradicate corruption," Taposh said.

The mayor also warned that strict action would be taken if any of the conditions of toll collection (from the corporation's leased property) are violated in the South City area.

''We will take strict action if anyone informs us about embezzlement. The corporation will cancel the leases, and action will be taken against leaseholders,'' mayor Taposh said.
