Mild cold wave sweeps the northern region

A mild cold wave has begun to sweep across the northern region of the country. People's daily activities are being hampered due to dense fog and the cold spell.

Md Mostafizur Rahman, assistant meteorologist at Rangpur Met office, said the temperature in the division had started to drop.

Tentulia in Panchagar recorded a temperature of 9.2 degrees Celsius on Friday while the temperature in Rangpur is 10.8 degrees Celsius.

The temperature may fall to 6-7 degrees Celsius in the next few days.

So, meteorologists have suggested that nobody goes outside home unless it is necessary.

Currently, more than 130 elderly and child patients suffering from cold-related diseases are undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Besides, the number of Covid-19 patients had increased with the onset of winter, said Dr Hirombo Kumar Roy, civil surgeon of Rangpur.

A total of 1,700 people had been affected by Covid-19 in the region so far, he said.
