5 best films based on liberation war

As our country unite to celebrate to Bangladesh's 50^th Victory Day anniversary.  Here is a list of top 5 liberation war movies which invoke the spirit and passion of patriotism within the souls of every proud Bangladeshis.

1. Joyjatra (2004)

The liberation war movie directed by Tauquir Ahmed featured an array of notable actors starring Mahfuz Ahmed, Bipasha Hayat, Azizul Hakim, Ahsan Habib Nasim, and others portrayed the raw pains and angst of poor people during liberation war.

The film show the miseries of the people who were travelling by boat to escape the heinous genocide thrown at them by the Pakistani army. It also depicts the stories of the heroic operations of the freedom fighters.

2. Ora Egaro Jon ( 1972)

Ora Egaro Jon was the first movie made on the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam, the movie stars Khosru, Nantu, Murad, Baby Zaman, Shabana, Razzak, Khalil, Notun, Syed Hasan Imam, Sumita Devi, Rawshon Zamil, ATM Shamsuzzaman, among others.

The movie beautifully showcases the struggles and sacrifices of the martyrs as they embrace in a mission to liberate the country from the hands of the heinous Pakistani soldiers. The movie also portrayed the contributions of women during the liberation war.

3. Shyamol Chhaya ( 2004)

Written and directed by popular author Humayun Ahmed, the acclaimed movie is about a about a group of people as they embark on a tumultuous boat journey during the turbulent period of 1971.

The film showcases brilliant star cast including Humayun Faridi, Tania Ahmed, Meher Afroz Shaon, Riaz, Shadhin Khosru, Syed Akhtar Ali, Ahmed Rubel, Ejazul Islam, Faruque Ahmed, Shamima Nazneen and Challenger.

4. Aguner Poroshmoni (1994)

Aguner Poroshmoni was the first movie to be directed by eminent author Humayun Ahmed.

The ace author directed the movie based on the novel of the same name, written by him. The film won National Film Award in eight categories including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Plot.

The film revolves around a middle-class family and how they struggle to live amidst the atrocity of genocide and war imposed by the Pakistani soldiers.  The family head, Abul Hayat brings home a stranger whom the family discovers is a member of Mukti Bahini.

The movie showcases the raw and brutal torture the Pakistani armies imposed on the citizens by killing people on the streets regardless of their religion and race.

The movie showcases an brilliant ensemble of actors such as Abul Hayat,             

Asaduzzaman Noor, Bipasha Hayat and Dilara Zaman in prominent roles.

5. Hangor Nodi Grenade ( 1997)

Directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam, the movie "Hangor Nodi Grenade" won Bangladesh National Film Award in three categories including Best Director, Best Story and Best Actress.

"Hangor Nodi Grenade" is a liberation war which was based on the novel of the same name by Selina Hossain.

The film, 'Hangor Nodi Grenade' is basically a village centric story, where the name of the village was Haldigaon. There a teenage girl named "Buri" was married at an early age to Gafur, a widower of the same village. Buri gives birth to a child called Rois, who is deaf and had trouble of impaired hearing.

The movie remains as an iconic movie due to the last scene of the movie. In the movie Buri hide two teenage freedom fighters. When the Pakistani army asks her where she has hidden the freedom fighters. Buri hands over her disabled child Rois with weapons and points him out as the freedom fighter.

This scene invokes the passion of a mother as she sacrifices her only son in order to save the life's of two young freedom fighter.
