Decision about sculpture after discussion with Islamic scholars: Home Minister

Informing that decision about sculpture would be taken after discussion with scholars, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Tuesday said that talks with the Islamic scholars on the issue have been fruitful. 

He disclosed the information at a briefing on Tuesday at the Secretariat.

Mentioning that discussions are going on, Asaduzzaman Khan said, "I want to make it clear that we will not go beyond the constitution and will not do anything to hurt religious sentiment."

He said, "We think a beautiful environment has been created and the scholars have agreed with us that no one should vandalize or breach the law and order of the country."

The decision was taken during a meeting with the top clerics of Qawmi madrasas on Monday night.

The Alem community will work together to ensure that no one can create chaotic situations through Facebook or any other means, added the Home Minister urging the citizens to be vigilant to stop the spread of false propaganda on Facebook.

According to the Home Minister, the scholars have promised to discontinue the movement with the hope that they can resolve the five demands through negotiations.
"Since we have started the discussion, we will get a solution soon," hoped the minister.

The Home Minister further said that the scholars have proposed for the Mujib Minar in the capital's Dholaipar but whether there will be a sculpture or not is yet to be discussed.

Besides, a proposal to arrange a meeting of the scholars' with the Prime Minister will be given to her, said the minister, adding that the Prime Minister will discuss the issue on a large scale and then make a decision.
