More than one year after the last meeting, the 14th meeting of the Chattogram Port Advisory Committee is scheduled to be held on 20 December.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, the chairman of the committee, will attend the meeting at the Chattogram Port Auditorium.

The committee was formed in 2010 to coordinate between government agencies and port users.

Although a rule stipulates four meetings to be held each year, the authorities failed to adhere to the timeline.

Port users vented their frustration, complaining that some key decisions have not been implemented due to the lack of meetings at a crucial time.

Mahbubul Alam, chairman of the Chittagong Port Users Forum and also president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries, told The Business Standard that the meeting had been delayed due to the crisis triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.

In order to expedite the overall activities of the port, the advisory committee should meet every three months, he added.

Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority, Md Omar Farooq said the 20 December meeting will be held at the Chattogram Port Auditorium.

Those who cannot attend the meeting in person will be able to do so virtually via Zoom, he added.
