Bangladesh sees highest Covid infection rate in 6 days

 

Bangladesh confirmed 36 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours and the country's death toll from the virus now stands at 6,874.

The latest day's infection rate was 15.30%, which was the highest in the last six days. Earlier on 30 November, the infection rate was 16.43%.

In the last 24 hours, 2,198 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 479,743, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a press release on Monday.

Meanwhile, 2,663 more patients were declared free of Covid-19, putting the total number of recoveries to 398,623 with an 83.09% recovery rate.  The death rate stands at 1.43%.

Among the latest day's victims, 24 were men and 12 were women. Four of them died at home while the others at different hospitals across the country.

Twenty-five of the deceased hailed from Dhaka division, seven from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi, Barishal, Khulna and Mymensingh.

In the past 24 hours, 14,869 samples were tested in 137 labs across the country. A total of 28,77,538 samples have been tested so far.

The gender breakdown of the Covid-19 victims shows that 5,255 of the total deceased were men and 1,619 were women.

The country's first Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
