Abrar killing: 3 accused on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court today placed three students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on five-day remand in a case filed over beating fellow student Abrar Fahad to death on early Monday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order as detective branch (DB) inspector Wahiduzzaman produced Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Md Moniruzzaman Monir and Md Akash before court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each.

Police on October 8 arrested Rafat from capital's Jhigatola area, Monir from Demra and Akash from Bipail area of Gazipur.

Another Dhaka court on October 8, placed ten former leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) BUET unit on five-day remand in the same case.

The accused are-Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Muhtasim Fuad, Anik Sarker, Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Sefayetul Islam Jiyon, Ishtiaq Munna, Khandaker Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir, Mozahidur Rahman, Muntamir Al Jemmy and Mehedi Hasan Robin.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order as investigation officer produced the accused before court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand.

BUET students and the varsity authorities found Abrar, 22, in critical condition from first-floor stairs of Sher-e-Bangla Hall at the wee hours of October 7 and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at around 6.30am.

His father filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station against 19 people.
