Bangladesh confirmed 39 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8am.

The country's death toll from the viral disease now stands at 6,487, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the meantime, 2,156 people tested positive anew for Covid-19, taking the tally to 454,146 so far.

The latest day's infection rate was 13.47% while the overall rate is 16.84% till date. The death rate stands at 1.43%.

During these 24 hours, 2,302 patients were declared free from Covid-19, with the tally of recoveries reaching 369,179 at a rate of 81.29%.

Among the latest day's death victims, 27 were men and 12 were women. All of them died at different hospitals across the country.

Moreover, 26 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, three from Rajshahi, two each from Khulna and Rangpur and one from Sylhet division.

Meanwhile, 16,001 samples were tested in 117 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 2,696,150 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of the Covid-19 victims shows that 4,982 of the total deceased were men and 1,505 were women.

The country's maiden Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death was reported 10 days later.
