Ahmed Shaheen joins Mercantile Bank as additional managing director
Ahmed Shaheen has joined Mercantile Bank as additional managing director, bringing more than 33 years of experience in Bangladesh's banking industry.
Before joining Mercantile Bank, he served as additional managing director of Eastern Bank, according to the press release.
Shaheen began his banking career in late 1992 as a probationary officer at IFIC Bank. Over the years, he has led operations in international banking, corporate relationships and structured finance.
He also served as deputy managing director and chief business officer of Prime Bank from 2015 to 2016.
A graduate of the University of Dhaka, Shaheen completed his postgraduate studies at American International University-Bangladesh.
He holds the Certified Documentary Credit Specialist qualification from the Institute of Financial Services, UK, and is also a certified graduate in finance and international trade.
Shaheen serves as a member of the Banking Commission of ICC Bangladesh. The bank highlighted his experience in financial product innovation and his contributions to developing trade finance in Bangladesh.
His appointment comes as Mercantile Bank pursues institutional modernisation, digital transformation and stronger risk governance.
The bank said it expects his leadership to support the expansion of its sustainable finance portfolio, improve asset quality and introduce new financial services for corporate and retail customers.
