After causing an intense backlash from Muslims in the Parisian suburb of Essonne, provocative posters for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm have been permanently removed from buses.

The posters offended the Muslim community due to Sacha Baron Cohen posing nearly nude while wearing a ring that with the word "Allah" on it.

The removal of the spreads, which see Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy character Borat wearing a surgical mask as a mankini and a ring engraved with the word "Allah" in Arabic, has been requested by a number of passengers and drivers.

The regional transportation group TICE took down the posters following a backlash that erupted over the weekend that saw some people, including bus drivers, condemn the posters as "provocative," "insulting" and "disrespectful" toward the Muslim religion.

While courting controversy is par for the course for Cohen, the situation in Essonne is particularly fragile right now as well as the rest of Paris, reports Variety.

Borat 2, the full title of which is Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, was released to mixed reviews on Amazon Prime Video on October 23.
