Biman to buy 11 more aircraft from Boeing, US envoy welcomes deal to be signed in New York

The US embassy in Dhaka has welcomed Biman Bangladesh Airlines' planned purchase of 11 additional Boeing aircraft, calling the agreement a win-win for bilateral relations.
"Congratulations to Boeing and Biman on the agreement to purchase 11 more of the world's best commercial planes. Another win-win for the US-Bangladesh relationship!" the embassy quoted Christensen as saying in a Facebook post today (23 September).
The ambassador also said he was looking forward to watching the signing ceremony in New York.

The agreement is scheduled to be signed at 4:30pm New York time on Wednesday (2:30am Thursday Bangladesh time), on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, according to the schedule of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The additional 11 aircraft will be added to Biman's US$3.7 billion agreement with Boeing, signed on 30 April, for 14 aircraft. The earlier deal covers eight 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9s and four 737-8s.
Once the new agreement is signed, Biman's planned Boeing acquisitions will rise to 25 aircraft.
Details of the models, price, financing arrangements and delivery schedule for the additional 11 aircraft have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Biman is also moving ahead with a separate proposed purchase of 10 Airbus aircraft, comprising four A350-900 widebody jets and six A321neo narrowbody aircraft.
Together, the Boeing and Airbus deals would bring Biman's planned aircraft acquisitions to 35, while the national flag carrier currently operates a fleet of 19 aircraft.
