Tribunal allows questioning of ex-army officer Tareque Sayeed in disappearance cases
He faces separate probes into alleged killings and enforced disappearances
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 today (15 September) allowed an investigation officer to question former army officer Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Tareque Sayeed Mohammad in two separate cases involving allegations of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial killings.
The tribunal, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, passed the order following a prosecution application.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim, who represented the prosecution, confirmed the development and told the tribunal that Tareque Sayeed is currently in Munshiganj Jail after being convicted in another case.

The investigation officer had sought the tribunal's permission to question him in the two cases, following which the tribunal granted the request, the prosecutor said.
Tareque Sayeed was brought before the tribunal from jail during the hearing.
On 10 August, the tribunal ordered that he be shown arrested in the two cases and sent to jail. Earlier, on 4 August, the prosecution had sought his production before the tribunal, following which the court ordered that he be produced on 10 August.
Prosecutor Shaikh Mahdi told the tribunal that three BNP leaders from Lakshmipur – Abdul Mannan, Zahirul Islam Sumon and Asaduzzaman Babul – were allegedly killed during extrajudicial operations on 15 December 2013.
BNP activist Bellal Hossain was also allegedly subjected to enforced disappearance, he said.
In a separate case, BNP leaders Saiful Islam Hiru and Humayun Kabir Parvez were allegedly subjected to enforced disappearance in Laksham, Cumilla, on 27 November 2013.
Investigations into both cases are ongoing, the prosecution said.
