What properties do Quader, Nasim, Arafat and Nikhil hold, and what are they worth?

The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered the confiscation of half of the movable and immovable assets of five leaders of the activity-banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations who were sentenced to death for crimes against humanity during the July Uprising.

The court also ordered that the confiscated properties be distributed among the families of July martyrs and injured individuals as compensation.

The five are Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash and General Secretary Moinul Hossain Khan Nikhil.

All seven convicts in the case are absconding. The other two are Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.

According to 2024 election affidavits, here is a look at the declared assets of Quader, Nasim, Arafat and Nikhil. Parash did not contest an election, so no affidavit was available for him.

How much wealth does Quader hold?

Obaidul Quader, who contested from Noakhali-5 in the 12th National Parliamentary Election in 2024, declared movable assets worth approximately Tk3.23 crore and immovable assets worth around Tk51 lakh in his affidavit.

He declared Tk80,000 in cash and nearly Tk76 lakh in deposits with banks and financial institutions. He also held savings certificates worth nearly Tk1.5 crore.

His affidavit listed one car valued at Tk77,500,000. He also declared 25 bhori of gold valued at Tk1.5 lakh, electronic items worth Tk9.20 lakh and furniture worth Tk8.75 lakh.

His only declared immovable asset was a five-katha plot in Uttara, Dhaka, valued at approximately Tk51 lakh.

Altogether, his declared movable and immovable assets were valued at approximately Tk3.74 crore.

Nasim's wealth exceeds Tk35 crore

AFM Bahauddin Nasim, who contested from Dhaka-8 in the 2024 election, declared movable assets worth Tk29.79 crore and immovable assets worth Tk5.40 crore.

According to his affidavit, Nasim had Tk7.69 crore in cash and Tk9.56 crore in bank deposits. His shares and bonds in various companies were valued at Tk11.14 crore, while his savings certificates were worth Tk60 lakh.

He owned two cars valued at nearly Tk65 lakh and declared 25 bhori of gold worth Tk3.5 lakh. His electronic equipment and furniture were valued at Tk10.25 lakh.

His immovable assets included 139 decimals of agricultural land in Madaripur and Savar and 153 decimals of non-agricultural land in South Keraniganj, Madaripur and Gazipur. The total value of the land was shown at Tk2.24 crore.

Nasim also owned a building in Uttara, Dhaka, valued at Tk2.71 crore, and a flat in Mirpur valued at Tk45 lakh.

Arafat's assets include Gulshan flat, shares

Mohammad Ali Arafat, who contested from Dhaka-17 in the 2024 election and later became state minister for information, declared movable assets worth approximately Tk1.99 crore and immovable assets worth Tk2.70 crore.

His only declared immovable asset was an apartment in Gulshan-2, valued at Tk2.70 crore.

Among his movable assets, his largest investment was in shares. Shares in nine companies held in his name were valued at approximately Tk1.45 crore.

He also held savings certificates worth Tk34 lakh and a car valued at Tk17.20 lakh. His electronics items were valued at Tk3 lakh.

Nikhil's assets include land, cars and FDR

Moinul Hossain Khan Nikhil, former member of parliament for Dhaka-14, declared immovable assets worth approximately Tk69.16 lakh.

His affidavit lists nearly 6.5 acres of agricultural land valued at Tk4.45 lakh and another 57.50 decimals of agricultural land valued at Tk25.52 lakh.

He also owned a three-katha plot of non-agricultural land valued at Tk4.71 lakh. Assets under the house or apartment category were valued at Tk34.47 lakh.

Among his movable assets, Nikhil declared a little over Tk24 lakh in cash and a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) worth Tk1 crore in his own name.

He held shares worth Tk8 lakh in Nabil Properties and Tk62 lakh in Nabil Packaging and Printing. His three vehicles were valued at more than Tk1.14 crore, while electronics equipment and furniture were worth approximately Tk2 lakh.

The affidavit showed his total movable assets at Tk5.5 crore.
