DMP arrests 542 in 24 hours, files 51 cases
Dhaka sees another sweep as police detain 542 in 24-hour anti-crime drive
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 542 people in its regular anti-crime drives across the capital in the past 24 hours while 51 cases were filed during the period.
Among those arrested, 193 were from Mirpur Division, 91 from Tejgaon, 60 from Wari, 52 from Motijheel, 42 from Uttara, 41 from Gulshan, 28 from Lalbagh, 22 from Ramna, 12 by the Detective Branch (DB) and one by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, according to a DMP statement.
The DMP said during the drives, police seized 45.49 kilograms of cannabis, 3,291 yaba tablets, a shot-gun, a car, 15 mobile phone sets and a pair of handcuffs.
It added that the law enforcement agencies also rescued a victim during the anti crime campaign in the capital.
The drives were conducted in different police station areas of the capital, and legal proceedings against the arrested persons are underway, the statement said.
