US forces are turning off their mobile and computer 'ad trackers' due to fears of Iranian attacks
The common ad trackers on smartphones pose a risk of leaking the location of US troops on the battlefield. Using commercially collected location data and information from data brokers, the enemy can identify the location and movement of soldiers. Due to this fear, the US Air Force, Army and Special Operations Command have disabled ad trackers on various devices and are imposing restrictions on the use of phones. However, according to experts, even if the trackers are disabled, the risk of identifying the location from network and other technical data remains. In other words, in modern warfare, common data on smartphones has now become a major source of intelligence information.
