11 die after suspected toxic liquor consumption in India's Madhya Pradesh

At least 11 people have died and more than 30 others have been hospitalised after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in Sagar district of India's Madhya Pradesh, police said today (6 September).
The victims were from Ghughar, Nauraj, Baraj and nearby villages. They were taken to Banda Civil Hospital after their health deteriorated, where doctors declared them dead. Three others were reported to be in critical condition, reports The Times of India.
Sagar Superintendent of Police Anurag Sujania said eight deaths had initially been reported and that suspected toxic liquor was the preliminary cause of the deaths. The death toll later rose to 11, according to the latest report.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the government would take strict action and order an inquiry into the incident. He also instructed the concerned minister and officials to visit the affected area.
Police and local authorities are investigating the source of the liquor and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
