6 Chinese nationals sent to jail over involvement in online scam ring
Police arrested the individuals from a hotel in Cox’s Bazar and seized 1,938 iPhones, 30 laptops and other communication equipment.
A Cox's Bazar court today (4 September) ordered six Chinese nationals arrested over their involvement in an international online fraud ring to be sent to jail.
Ramu police produced the six before the Cox's Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Court around 6pm today. Judge Asad Uddin Md Asad ordered them to be sent to jail after their health examinations, said court sources.
The six were arrested during a police raid on Hotel Sea Palace in the Kalatali area of Cox's Bazar last night (3 September), Additional Superintendent of Police Ahidur Rahman said today.

Police seized 1,938 iPhones, 30 laptops and several items resembling communication equipment used by law enforcement agencies during the operation, he said.
The raid was conducted based on information provided by Dhaka police following a complaint filed with Ramu police, Ahidur said. More than 250 people allegedly involved in online fraud are believed to be operating in Cox's Bazar and other parts of the country, he added.
A case has been filed against the six over allegations related to online fraud and cybercrime, the police official said.
A police source said around 200–300 Chinese and Taiwanese nationals had rented two hotels along Cox's Bazar's Marine Drive and were carrying out online-based fraudulent activities.
Hotel Sea Palace authorities said a group of Chinese nationals checked into the hotel on 26 August. Several members of the group were detained during a police operation.
