Man sues wife for Tk25 lakh over alleged concealment of previous marriages
The lawyer said the case was filed to establish a legal precedent so that no one could allegedly similarly deceive others in the future.
A man has filed a case seeking Tk25 lakh in compensation from his wife, alleging that she concealed information about her previous marriages and divorces and presented herself as unmarried before their marriage.
Uday Jalal Dip also sought a declaration that their marriage and marriage certificate (Kabinnama) are invalid.
The case was filed before Dhaka's 3rd Senior Civil Judge Khadija Akter today (3 September). After hearing the application, the court issued a summons directing his wife, Sheikh Abanti Oishi, to appear before it.

Plaintiff's lawyer Ishrat Hasan confirmed the matter.
According to the lawyer, Oishi allegedly married Dip by presenting herself as unmarried. Dip later learned about her previous marriages and found two marriage certificates related to her earlier marriages.
The lawyer said the case was filed to establish a legal precedent so that no one could allegedly similarly deceive others in the future.
According to the case statement, Oishi concealed information about her previous marriages and divorces and presented herself as unmarried. Believing this information, Dip married her on 12 December 2024 with a dower of Tk20 lakh. He paid Tk4.5 lakh as part of the dower.
The plaintiff said he learned on 30 December 2025 that Oishi had previously been married multiple times.
After the marriage, Dip allegedly gave her around Tk30 lakh at different times based on marital trust, including money for the unpaid portion of the dower, family needs and personal financial difficulties.
He also alleged that he gave Oishi gold jewellery weighing 8.5 bhori.
